A lot of pundits in the search industry like to make predictions. Most of them are pretty obvious if you know anything about the industry.
But in today’s WebProNews, Bobby Heard makes some pretty interesting points. Here’s a summary:
- Reciprocal links will mean less. (I couldn’t agree more. Reciprocal link programs are outta control right now. Google’s bound to put the smack down sooner or later.)
- One-way links and triangle linking will be the new reciprocal links. (Yep, see No. 1)
- Faster indexing. (Unless you’re a news site, Google will index you roughly every 2-3 days. Expect a much shorter turnaround time, in the future.)
- Microsoft’s gloves are coming off. (No doubt. I can’t say it enough. Big Bill Gates don’t play!)
- Importance of PageRank will decline. (Hmm, not sure about this one. Time will tell. Certainly, what’s on Google’s toolbar will mean less, but ‘real’ PageRank should still matter.)

For employers, No. 3 is the most important. If search engines can index pages faster, then the jobs posted on your corporate site will be seen faster. Better make sure your jobs section is in order and can be spidered efficiently.
