Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 5 years, you’re at least familiar with the concept of Instant Messaging (IM). If you use IM, you’re aware that every so often, MSN asks its users to upgrade to the latest version.
In light of MSN better integrating its search technology onto the world’s desktop, I received my update notice today.
As I’m going through the process, I get to a screen with default checked boxes asking if I 1) want to upload the new MSN toolbar (complete with MSN search box, of course) for Internet Explorer and 2) want to make MSN search my default.
Most people simply click Next when upgrading their software without really looking at what they’re doing. So, no doubt a lot of people now will have MSN’s toolbar and search window on their browser and not even know exactly why.
That Bill Gates guy sure is sneaky, isn’t he?
No doubt MSN’s search technology is much improved and will certainly by budget alone make a run at Google’s supremacy over the next few years. And that said, consider this under-the-radar occurrence of "Surpise, you’ve got MSN search," another step in that direction.
Did I mention that Gates guy is pretty sneaky?
