eBay and kijiji – targeting jobs

Last month, I wrote about eBay purchasing a 25 percent share of Craigslist and their acquisition of Rent.com, noting that I believed they were making big strides into the classifieds market. Stating thus that this should create a definite red flag to anyone on the Internet recruiting industry (and offline for that matter).

EBay getting into the online job listing game would certainly raise some eyebrows and shake-up the market significantly.

Well, guess what? EBay has recently launched an international site (non-US) similar to Craigslist that highlights classified ads of all kinds including, yep, you guessed it, jobs. The site is called Kijiji.

The auction giant’s eventual intentions are still sketchy, but I expect them to make a serious bid at the classified space globally in the years to come and challenge the current state of affairs. For their own sakes, I hope Monster, CareerBuilder and HotJobs are taking notes.
