Google launches customized, local news … jobs?

Google announced a new feature for Google
News
today that enables users to customize their front-page news as
they read it.

The enhancement underscores Google’s goal to get surfers to find and organize the information they want, sort of like a MyGoogle page. Currently, this customization solution lets users select from nine available languages and
22 local editions. They can arrange the news by topic as well.

Take note of "local editions." If I’m a newspaper, this scares me to death. It means Google is making a serious play at aggregating local news.

And if I sell job postings for a living, this scares me to death too. Don’t discount the potential long term effects this strategy will have on how people search jobs.

Since most jobs are local in nature, and Google is all about helping people access information, then it’s not a  stretch to expect that the MyGoogle page of the future will not only bring news to you, but job openings as well.
