Anyone else as disappointed in online social / business networking  as I am?

A few years ago, I signed-up for Monster networking, which I thought was a great idea at the time. I’ve also signed-up for Ryze and LinkedIn. I don’t pay for any of them.

Since then, I can’t count one positive thing that’s come of it. However, what I can count is the infinite number of spam in my inbox from sales people hoping to land a new client via these networking services.

By my best guess, Monster added this service as a product a few years ago in response to the poor economy and lack of employment activity. Stockholders typically don’t care where the money’s coming from, as long as it’s coming.

It’s hardly their core competency, and I hope they dump it soon. Instead of Monster Networking, how ’bout making the pool of job listings better by restricting postings from Make Money @ Home, Ltd.? Now that’s a good idea.

I am just as skeptical, but am willing to give it a shot again.

Maybe not Monster, but LinkedIn is a way to get your name out.

The problem for me is candidates just find it too easy to submit their resume online, and consider that jobhunting for the day.

Truth be told, I’ve done it myself, out of desperation, and I’m supposed to be the professional who knows how worthless it is.

The problem with the online social networking is the same as in life – why would someone who has good contacts give them to those who wants them?

Low reward/High Risk. But the tools will get better – hopefully.
