Monster announced the hiring of a Washington insider today . According to the press release:

Phillip Bond is Senior Vice President, Government
Relations. As Undersecretary of Commerce for Technology at the U.S.
Department of Commerce and the former Director of Federal Public
Policy for Hewlett-Packard, Mr. Bond is an accomplished Washington
veteran with nearly 15 years of government experience spent in diverse
legislative and executive branch roles.

This is a pretty good move by Monster. Due to cushy retirement benefits, the government workforce, full of soon-to-retire Baby Boomers, will be the first to see a mass exodus of employees over the next 5-15 years.

Therefore, getting a Beltway Insider now should be a good strategy to tap into this opportunity.

Besides, by attracting an audience that is not exactly a first-adopting, risk-taking group, they should be able to get this group into their camp easier and earlier than other Internet users.

Hey, maybe Monster should send out CD-ROMs in the mail to everyone in government – AOL-style.
