Here it is, kids … straight out of the laboratory, it’s the next step in Google becoming a full-blown, personalized, handy-dandy portal: http://www.google.com/ig

Customize your Google search page with Gmail, weather, news, search history and the like (be on the lookout for Blogger and RSS integration too).

For their next trick? How about developing (or acquiring) vertical search technology and putting the latest online job openings at users’ fingertips?

Granted, "My" sites aren’t new. MyYahoo! and MyMSN have been around for quite awhile. But is anyone willing to bet against Google at this point? I’m not.

On jobs, for example, Google doesn’t have the albatross that is HotJobs hanging around its neck like Yahoo!. And MSN is tied too tightly to their advertising relationship with CareerBuilder to take a lead.

That considered, my money’s on Google to redefine what it means to locate  employment opportunities online, as well as drive eyeballs to employers – all at no advertising cost by pulling listings directly from corporate Web sites.

Hey, maybe all the money corporations save on recruitment advertising can be used to hire all the out-of-work job board and newspaper employees.
