Inside Bay Area reports:
Yahoo Inc., owner of the most-visited Web site, may
consider developing its own Internet browser to help attract more users
and advertisers toits Web sites, Chief Executive Officer Terry Semel
said.
"You could look to Yahoo to do most everything that makes
sense on the Internet going forward," Semel said Friday in an interview
in New York. Developing a browser may make sense "at some point in
time," he said.
There’s been a lot of speculation for awhile about a Google browser, but this is the first time that I’ve heard talk of a Yahoo! browser.
As more and more of computer life is driven by the Web, it makes sense for both companies to have a browser offering to offer quick access to all their various services.
If a Yahoo! browser came to fruition, how would HotJobs fit in the equation? I assume jobs would be integrated into a Yahoo! solution, but having that be exclusively HotJobs might hinder their ability to provide vertical search for non-HotJobs jobs.
Will HotJobs be left out of the cold with Yahoo!’s new strategies? Time will tell.
