For those in the search engine optimization and marketing space, the Search Engine Strategies Conference in San Jose is the mecca of annual events. It showcases the latest in everything search. All the major players are there, as well as all the wannabes.

Due to a scheduling conflict, I can’t make it this year. However, I’ll be watching closely.

If you’re a search company and wish to make news and see it spread like wildfire, this is the place to do it. On the heels of some attention-drawing announcements by Yahoo! and MSN lately, don’t be surprised to see Google pull something out of their hat that might trump any recent advancements by the other major search players.

Could there be an announcement of a vertical search offering? Stay tuned.
