askjeeves introduces own pay-per-click advertising solution

Forward: I’d like to preface this post by saying that I’m not a big fan of AskJeeves from an advertising (or search) perspective for job and employment-related searches, because they’ve sold their soul to Monster by having a mega advertisement at the top of every results page. Boo!

**************************

Similar to Google’s AdWords or Yahoo!’s Search Marketing (formerly Overture), AskJeeves has come out with its own pay-per-click advertising model. Link to it here.

The product looks pretty straight forward, and if you use Google or Yahoo! now, you shouldn’t have any problems getting going. Here are a few specifics:

  • Listings are reviewed by an editor, similarly to Yahoo!
  • Input a credit card for monthly payment.
  • $15 to start. Minimum $15 spend per month minimum.
  • Cancel at any time.
  • Cost-per-click is based on a pre-determined budget set by users. You’ll get the highest possible placement based on your budget in comparison to the competition.

The days of two main pay-per-click players (Google and Yahoo!) are coming to an end, as this move by Jeeves indicates. I anticipate MSN to get in the game pretty soon as a major player, as well.

For advertisers, this means both greater challenges and greater opportunities. For the most part, smaller players such as Kanoodle have a pretty good return on investment (particularly for e-commerce sites), so I expect advertisers to use every pay-per-click medium possible that makes sense to their business, because, well, pay-per-click works.

Great low $15 start up, but I can honestly say I have used it and it pales to miva, and overture. Google has it’s own problems and so on and so on. However, I’m fairly certain as they stay online that they will inevidibly get better and better.
