Google Sidebar launched today. It’s a very exciting offering and a great maneuver against Yahoo! and Microsoft.

Here’s a quick breakdown, taken straight from Google:

With Sidebar, you can see personalized information right on your desktop:
A. News: See the latest news headlines personalized to your interests

B. Web Clips: Read RSS and Atom feeds from anywhere on the web

C. Scratch Pad: Type and save notes for yourself

D. Weather: Keep track of weather forecasts for multiple locations

E. Photos: Watch a slideshow of photos from the web and on your computer

F. Stocks: Keep track of up-to-the-minute prices for your favorite stocks

G. Email: Read new email, including Outlook and Gmail, as you get it

H. Quick View: Keep a list of frequently used web pages and files handy

This is a pretty good move by Google to combat the one-stop-shop portal page of Yahoo! and the desktop dominance of Microsoft, whose newest version of Windows is sure to include similar functionality.

Google has done a good job of launching superior services in the last year or so, including Gmail, News and Desktop Search. This solution brings it all together, 24/7.

Expect to see additions such as an enhanced RSS feeder, personalization, instant messenger and mobile solutions in the future.

Focusing on e-recruiting, some sort of vertical feed for jobs would be a nice addition too. Say goodbye to email alerts.
