It’s a small step for .jobs-kind, but something that should start clarifying the potential advantages of a .jobs domain name within search engines.
The domain, www.Microsoft.jobs is now ranking on Page One for "Microsoft jobs" on MSN, as of this writing.
Yeah, I know, the dot-com ranks higher, and Microsoft.jobs should rank well for "Microsoft jobs," right? No doubt, but keep in mind the page that’s ranking well is merely a holding page provided by dot-jobs.
What if Microsoft actually decides to use their .jobs domain name?
The critical focus shouldn’t exclusively be on a search for "[company] jobs," but rather on a company’s ability to leverage their .jobs URL and optimize for their highly sought-after positions and publically promoted employment opportunities.
I’ve said for awhile that the company that takes advantage of their .jobs domain to the fullest optimization, will most likely see beneficial rankings on search engines, as is starting to become evident by this early ranking for "Microsoft jobs."
