Looks like the recent ban placed on it by Craigslist hasn’t deterred Oodle from damning the torpedoes and moving forward.
The classifieds aggregator has added 23 new local markets to its engine. The site now claims serving over 50 percent of the U.S. population with 49 metros and 4.5 million listings from a variety of sources.
The list of newbies includes Austin, Baltimore, Memphis, Nashville, Charlotte, Columbia, El Paso, Fort Meyers,
Greensboro, Hartford, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Norfolk,
Orlando, Pittsburgh, Providence, Raleigh, Rochester, Salt Lake City,
Tucson, Tallahassee, Tampa and West Palm Beach.
The vertical search game is quite the land grab right now. Whether its opening up new metro areas (Oodle), or partnering with as many organizations as possible and scraping from as many new content sources as possible (SimplyHired and Indeed), it’s a race.
Good business, but I also have to wonder how much the looming entry of Google Base into the market is effecting everyone’s quickened pace to expand and grab marketshare.
