Remember Head-
hunter.net?
No, not the acquired-by-
CareerBuilder (or whoever it was) Headhunter, but the Headhunter before the Huns took over the shop?
For those of you not around ca. 1997-8, Headhunter.net was a job board with an interesting way of providing job listings and resume postings. Click here if you need your memory shaken.
Listing jobs was free. Posting resumes was free. The money was made via upgrades in your listing position.
For example, employers looking for nurses might get into a bidding war for the top position to be in front of the right audience. The order of the rest of the listings were based on bid price.
Job seekers looking to show up at the top of employers’ resume searches could to likewise.
Bidding wars inevitably ensued for hot talent, or for job-starved candidates. No matter what the economy did, there was an answer.
In a weird way, Headhunter.net was a Frankenstein-like offering of Craigslist meets eBay meets Monster before any of those solutions really took hold.
I have to wonder where Headhunter.net might be today had they stayed the course and not been acquired all those years ago and ripped apart. I have to think they’d be a significant player.
In fact, the idea still has powerful merit today for any job board looking to evolve with the ever-changing online recruitment landscape.
Hey, maybe I’ll resurrect the strategy and create my own job board …
Nah.
