One of my favorite things about the .jobs domain is its ability to help direct employers cut through the clutter of poor job sites in search results.

Because each .jobs domain name purchase goes through a screening process, the risk of a user being on a site that isn’t legit decreases significantly.

In contrast, take a look at this site. It appears on Yahoo!’s first page of rankings for "Target jobs."

It has a confusing look-and-feel if you were expecting to see Target Dog. And it’s not the Target we all know and love. However, it’s obvious to see how a job seeker might get confused.

This site would not have qualified for www.Target.jobs.

Additionally, direct employers can help themselves cut through the sea of job sites via their pay-per-click advertising, as exemplified by this ad from Macy’s:

Macysjobs

You’ll see this ad when searching for part time jobs in New York and other related searches for their openings on Google.

Job seekers using search engines like Google to find jobs will gradually learn that a .jobs domain equals a real job with a real company and potentially bypass the .com’s and their risk of being fake, spammy, low in quality or illegal in nature.

Additionally, since Google ranks its advertisers based partly on ad popularity, Macy’s in this example has a good chance of having a more popular ad than the job sites, and thus rising to the top of the list while paying less.

Lower investment. Better placement. Less risk for job seekers. It’s all good.
