Here was a guy that never grew up knowing his dad, his mom was killed in a car accident when he was young...and spent most of his adult life pursuing fame as a means to prove his worth. Just listen to "Mother" on Plastic Ono Band. The song is about letting go of your past and coming to terms with the death of the people you love most. Pretty intense stuff. People always ridiculed John for beign antagonistic, naive and idealistic...but I think that's what people loved about him. When he died, everyone lost a peice of their youth.
