I know, old news: The power of online search continues to grow, and Google continues to dominate search.

Nielsen//NetRatings reports 5.1 billion total search queries in October, which was up 15 percent from just five months earlier.

Of that, Google’s share comes in at 48 percent of search share, or 2.5 billion searches for the month.

Yahoo! came in with 22 percent, MSN had 11 percent. AOL had 7 percent, but considering Google powers AOL search, just throw that number onto Google’s share.

Interestingly, local search queries increased 19 percent. I expect that number to rise as classified listings (jobs, autos, real estate, etc.) most likely become increasingly integrated into search, and such content tends to be more local in focus than regional, national or global.
