Indeed continues to push the envelope of vertical job search integration into the world of general search offerings. And I like it.
If you’re a user of Google Talk instant messenger service, do the following:
- Open Google Talk.
- Click "Add friend."
- Enter "indeedjobs."
- Type a message. I chose "Hi."
- Then follow the instructions.
Cool stuff. Jobs IM’d to you regularly.
Indeed’s strategy of integrating its services into Google before Google has a chance to do it themselves is right on.
Knowing they can’t beat Google, why not join ‘em, essentially becoming part of the search ecosystem in contrast to being opposed to it?
If Indeed can get enough people to use and love services such as this, people may not have a reason to upload Google classified listings in a similar way. At the very least, Indeed is setting itself up as a complimentary service.
I’ll be interested to see if a similar offering shows up in the more-popular MSN or AOL messenger services. Hopefully, the gang at Indeed will keep my readers tuned into the number of sign-ups.

Hi Joel,
Thanks for the mention. A slight modification – instead of adding “indeed.com” as a friend on google talk – enter “indeedjobs@gmail.com”. More info here:

Hi Joel – thanks for the write up but you got one thing wrong. It’s indeedjobs – not indeed.com – that you should be IMing.
Otherwise, glad you like it.
