amazon’s a9 search rewarding users with product incentives, good for indeed.com

A lot of people I know in SEO circles have been predicitng a big year for Amazon’s A9 search engine. I’m skeptical, but they’ve made it a little tougher to be so.

Why? Amazon is now rewarding its users with up to 1.57 percent going toward Amazon purchases for using their search over rivals like Google and Yahoo!

Here’s a tidbit from the e-mail I received:

As a regular user of A9.com, you get many benefits from the advanced
search solutions and the personalization features we offer. In
addition, you can receive 1.57%* off virtually everything you buy on
Amazon.com.

To take advantage of this benefit, join the A9 Instant Reward program
and search on A9.com a few days per week. It’s easy and it’s
free: go to [link] and join with one click.

Great move. People who have never considered using Amazon’s search engine might start, especially if they’re Amazon junkies like myself.

Granted, 1.57 percent isn’t a lot, but it’s something. I expect other engines to follow Amazon’s lead. Bill Gates is already on record saying MSN search will start rewarding searchers with free Microsoft software or even cash. I have no doubt Google and Yahoo! will be watching this very closely.

For Indeed, this is especially good news, considering they are the vertical job search provider for Amazon. More A9 traffic equals more traffic and brand awareness for Indeed.
