According to a recent MediaPost survey, seven in 10 college grads turn to job sites when looking for work.

Of those, 62 percent said they posted a resume on Monster, up from 30 percent last year. Forty-nine posted on CareerBuilder, up from 10 percent last year. And 31 percent went to HotJobs, up from less than 10 percent the previous year.

These are huge increases that question this survey’s validity in my mind. I don’t doubt that Monster’s increase in messages touting "post your resume," has upped postings, but more than doubling the number of resumes in a year certainly goes against conventional wisdom. It’s also noteworthy that the survey’s universe was only 1,500.

The survey also said the number of bloggers had increased from 9 percent nationally to 14 percent of collegians. And that 47 percent downloaded music, up from 20 percent.

If the numbers are indicative of real trends, the most troubling number hits home for newspapers. The survey said 78 percent of grads used the Net for news, up from 20 percent the previous year.
