A big difference between Google and Yahoo! is that Y! desires to integrate a human element to its search algorithms. Tagging is the term and typically the process by which humans can “tag” a site as desirable.
Y! believes this is mo’ better search. We’ll see.
As part of this move, Y! bought del.icio.us, the leader of the tagging phenomenon, awhile back. They even like it so much that they’ve recently added its functionality to the Y! toobar.
Why should you care? Well, a lot of people use Y!’s toolbar and this tagging thing is kinda, sorta becoming popular with many Web surfers. And there’s no doubting the fact that del.icio.us has potential to impact the jobs space.
Who is the No. 1 search result on del.icio.us for jobs, for example? You’ll just have to click here to find out, but I think some results might surprise you.
One result worth mentioning is Jobby.com (also recently highlighted via Recruiting.com). Why? Because they’re the only one with a del.icio.us icon in their footer, which I have to believe helps this relative unknown.
Should you consider doing likewise with your site? Yahoo! would proabably say yes, and that’s a pretty reputable source.
