The long tail got a little longer today. I’ve launched my own online job community: Oaseo.
It targets the search engine optimization and marketing industry exclusively. Call it a micro-niche or a micro-vertical.
Why? On the surface, it may seem like a strange endeavor, but to me it seems like a perfectly logical extension into what I already know and love best: Internet recruiting and search marketing.
I think it’s an underserved market with a lot of potential, so why not? Currently, the site is pretty sparse, but I have a lot of ideas in my head that will hopefully be realized as time passes. At this point, learning is more important than earning.
I have chosen Indeed to power my site after months of tracking the amount of SEO jobs spidered, as well as ease of use, speed, flexibility, etc. versus other options. They’ve proven themselves to be a great partner over the past few weeks, and I think we can learn a lot from each other.
What really intrigues me about this journey to date is this: The ability to launch a niche job site, supported by a vertical job search engine’s content, without having to worry about 1) a large sales force, 2) excessive customer support and 3) retaining customers. All of the above are costly barriers that can now easily be alleviated.
As an example, I live in Cleveland. If I wanted to, I could start a Cleveland-focused job site and start Day One with more jobs than my local newspaper site or any other site with jobs in the area. Pretty powerful stuff. Out-optimize, outsmart and outrun your competition and you should have a business of some success.
An added reason for Oaseo is that if I’m going to continue to comment about the industry via Cheezhead, I believe it’s important to live the experience rather than sit on the sidelines. I was feeling a tad disconnected. Walk the walk, right?
There’s hopefully greater insight to come, but feel free to sign-up for the site’s mailing list or checkout the press release for more information.

Sounds cool - good luck with the site!
What makes it “an seo job community” vs. “an seo job board”?

Joel,
It looks great. I’m glad we can partner with you and look forward to helping it evolve.
