penny for my thoughts?

April 20th, 2006

There’s an interesting new site called IndieKarma. The service enables bloggers to add a payment option, via PayPal, so readers can donate money every time they visit a specific blog.

The cost? One cent.

For an example of the look and feel, click here.

Pros: 1) Readers can still see your content regardless. Payments are done on an opt-in basis, donation-style. 2) Payments are seamless via PayPal.

Cons (from my short visit to the site): 1) By running some conservative numbers, my blog might make a whopping $78 per year. 2) Donations can’t be set at more than a penny. 3) IndieKarma gets free advertising on every page impression your blog produces.

The cons, at least for me, outweigh the pros. I don’t plan on pimping Cheezhead for $78 a year. That said, I’m a very curious person and wonder how many of my readers would opt to dish out a penny for my thoughts. Vote now:

Penny for your Thoughts
Would you pay a penny for each time you visit Cheezhead?

Yaro Starak over at entrepreneurs-journey.com was very kind to let us write a little piece about the application that appeared as a recent posting on his blog about internet business. Joel Cheesman at Cheezhead also posted a couple of his thoughts about the system. So far we’re pretty happy. We can see that traffic has picked up on the site as people stop by to check out what we’ve done, and a number of people have signed up to demo the system. […]
