Remember the Seinfeld (still the best show on TV) episode when Jerry joins forces with his nemesis Newman in an effort to get the postman a gig in Hawaii, far away from Manhattan? Sounds like something similar is going on with the titans of tech: eBay, Yahoo! and Microsoft.
The Times explores a recent article by the Wall Street Journal titled, eBay explores ’super union’ to thwart Google. On the heels of record earnings by Google last quarter, this might not be a bad idea by the other guys.
The Times article says, “discussions between the internet giants began in earnest late last year and were spurred by Google entering into eBay’s market with the launch of an online classified advertising site (Google Base).”
Readers of this blog and others like it will not be shocked that Base was the catalyst for such a reaction. Is an alliance between Monster, CareerBuilder and HotJobs far off? Is it already in motion?
Will such an alliance between these mammoth companies and major market players work? Well, if that Seinfeld episode is any predictor, it’s just a lot of yada, yada.
