Google went public. MySpace sold out to the suits. Damien’s at a movie theatre near you today (6/6/06). And now Recruiting.com is in the hands of Jobster.
Congratulations to both Recruiting.com head Jason Davis and Jobster chief Jason Goldberg. I particularly think the foresight by Goldberg is commendable. The recruiting blogosphere is growing up right before our eyes, isn’t it?
I consider Davis a very good friend. He was one of the first to gravitate toward my original blog over a year ago and probably the first to ever promote it. I’m not alone, as many others have Jason and his merry crew to thank for greater awareness and an increase in the sharing of ideas and opinions. Therefore, it’s especially sweet to see him and his ‘baby’ take flight to the next level.
For the most part, blogs tend to be islands off the Information Superhighway just waiting to be noticed. Most pop-up and sink before anyone notices. For Recruiting.com to be acquired says a lot about the potential power of blogs and the ability to bring islands together to create greater, more influential land masses.
The power of these masses is yet to be realized, particularly in our industry. But Recruiting.com’s step toward adulthood is maybe a step for all of us out of adolescence.
Will the future of the blogosphere be relegated to the Net’s party-crasher du jour, or will it be a future of great influence and change? I tend to think the acquisition of Recruiting.com reflects a step toward the latter.
