Last week’s eBay auction certainly received a lot more attention than I expected, as well as quite a bit more money than I anticipated. Guess vendors at SHRM are motivated to look outside the typical direct mail piece or conference bag sponsorship as a way to build brand awareness.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce JobCentral as the winner of Cheezhead’s SHRM Conquest auction. I’ve known JobCentral’s Bill Warren since he ran Online Career Center (OCC), and I was a snotty-nosed kid at E.span in Indianapolis during the ’90s.

It’s fair to say we both have a great deal of respect for each other and are fans of each other’s work. We’re also both big backers of The Tribe, which is far more important than Internet recruiting.

When I asked Bill why he took the bidding so high, his response was, “I just thought [the idea] was absolutely brilliant.” Bill’s a man of few words. And in his spirit, I’ll keep this post short as well and just end by saying JobCentral rocks!
