Jobster’s Jason Goldberg called me last week asking, “So, how much to buy your site?” He was joking, but his real reason for calling was almost as intriguing.

Hot off the acquisition of Recruiting.com, Jobster is set to officially announce something that aims to please its job-posting customers: The ability to upload jobs into Google Base and/or Craigslist at no extra cost. Checkout the screenshot below:

This is exciting on many levels. A few are:

  1. It helps solidify the ongoing downward spiral of the monetary value of job content.
  2. It introduces employers to Google Base and Craigslist as a viable, free job posting option - in case they weren’t already.
  3. It supports the growing importance of Google in the job posting process.
  4. Monster is sure to hate it.

Additionally exciting is the fact that Jobster is tracking the results:

You gotta love this! By revealing this tracking data to its clients, Jobster is helping to speed up the adoption of analytics into the hiring process. Let’s face it. Metrics in hiring, on the part of direct employers, is generally less than ideal. Kudos to Jobster for bringing a little math into the conversation.

According to Goldberg, this functionality is going live in the next few days, although posting to fee-based markets on Craigslist will be on hold for a bit longer. Hopefully as time passes, he’ll share some of the numbers, so the industry can get a grasp of the most effective resources in Jobster’s arsenal. I’m particularly interested to see how Base holds up against Craig.

Joel, you’re definitely a half-full glass optimist this time. Yes, that’s why we’d like to think Jobster included the metrics (and there are a number of Jobster clients who do think proactively about metrics), but I fear an even bigger motivation was all their clients paranoid about OFCCP compliance.

About time someone did this, we were offering this to UK job boards about 5 years ago but they did not want to play!

You have to no doubt buy a Jobster package first though to get this.

Just wondering will Craigslist allow the rest of us the same priveledge. At the moment, I would have to hand-add individual job postings. When I asked on their “help forum” I was simply called a spammer by users….

Yeah I have the same question as Paul. How is Jobster able to do this with Craigslist? With the research I have done this type of redirect of job posts to a site OTHER than the direct employer is specifically against Craigslist regulations. What gives?

  5. francis.begovich Says:

Totally off topic but I was talking to someone the other day about job distribution services…the only one I could think of off hand was datafrenzy…do you guys remember the other competitors? I know hodesiqu has some tool that does this as well.

    Thanks,

Take a look at this. Looks like Jobster is break the rules over at craigslist by reposting jobs. That’s really amazing they are readily ’selling’ this service.

Hello…first my apologies for the confusing comments…to clear up my Craigslist questions what I was asking about is if Jobster can infact repost jobs to Craigslist. This is in reference to their ‘direct post’ feature they are heavily advertising.

As I understand it this practice is not permitted according to craigslist Terms of Service. So what I was trying to get at was does Jobster have some partnership agreement which would allow them to bypass the craigslst Terms of Service?

So being the curious person I am I went ahead and posted a few threads on the Craigslist forums trying to get a straight answer on whether or not this so called ‘direct post’ jobster is advertising is legit…this tread from craigslist is the best answer I have received.

In reading that it appears that what Jobster is doing is not approved by Craigslist…which is amazing to me as Jobster is so readily advertising this service.

Anyway hope that clears this up.

Okay feel free to ban me for the multiple posts but here is the actual response from Craigslist in the link I reference above:

    >craigslist.

Yes, it’s truly amazing that some people have no shame. Charging to use a free service and trying to seem like they are in a partnership with Craigslist is shameful. Jobster, Oodle and other aggregating sites are the parasites of the internet and should be put out of business, if not sent to jail.

Don’t get me started on the really illegal stuff: spammers, scammers, software pirates, russian brides, realestate “moguls”, and the rest of the craigslist rogues gallery. We have our hands full.
