google (and msn) smile down on .jobs domain
July 5th, 2006
Haters of .jobs, bow down.
Though it’s taken some time, Google and other search engines are starting to show signs of lovin’ the .jobs domain.
- www.GoTo.jobs, the site’s brain center, was recently awarded a Google PageRank of 7/10. This is a high ranking currently shared by such industry standards as SHRM.org and CareerXRoads, sites which have been around a lot longer and have strong link popularity and trust. For such an infant site as GoTo.jobs to get a 7/10 is significant. It may reveal a tip of the hat that .jobs domains are more trusted as far as engines are concerned, primarily due to the domain’s human-edited approval process.
- The fact that .jobs domains are currently receiving PageRank is a victory in and of itself. For the longest time, Google seemed to be having difficulty figuring out a .jobs from a .com in its public site ranking system.
- .jobs domains are now cached and indexed in Google as if they were a .com. Click here to see what I mean.
- When doing a search for .jobs on Google, you should see an integrated search in the middle of the page, breaking down “.jobs” from the keyword “jobs.” Usually, Google reads a dot as a space, so a search for “cars” or “.cars” would be the same. Not so with .jobs, even though it’s considered a common language word.
- This could certainly change any day (or second) - and it probably will - but for the meantime, www.goto.jobs is a Top Ten ranking on MSN searches for the keyword “jobs.” This may signal an upperhand for .jobs domains on MSN search.
Long time readers of my blog are aware of my love for the .jobs domain and what it could mean from a search engine optimization for employers and companies standpoint.
Many of the recent signs highlighted above help point to a bright future for the domain and employers who learn how to leverage it properly. Naysayers want to see immediate results, but sometimes good things take time.
