google homepage edits emphasize verticals

Google made a few edits to its homepage.

1) The Froogle link has been replaced by Video, and 2) Clicking “more” drops down a few additional top verticals. (No clue exacly why Base content isn’t easily visible from clicking “even more,” except that Google believes its not quite ready for Prime Time.)

New Google homepage.

As a result, traffic went up. Shocker, huh? (Looking at the traffic data below, Froogle, has been quite a stinker by Google standards.)

Google video traffic.

So, imagine a day if / when Google gives this kind of exposure to its Base content. It’s not too challenging to visualize a day when “Classifieds” becomes a prominent link from www.google.com.

The faucet can turn on whenever Google wishes.
