Amidst the glamour of so-called Web 2.0, it’s easy to get lulled to sleep by the so-called Web 1.0 success stories.
Well, don’t fall asleep on Craigslist. Craigslist laughs at Web. 2.0, even while remaining a shining example of the 2.0 equation that says: Content + Trust = Traffic … and lots of it, apparently.
In a recent article in The New York Times:
Web sites featuring classified ads drew 47 percent more unique visitors this July than last, according to comScore Media Metrix, an online traffic measurement service. About half the spike could be attributed to Craigslist, which shot up 99 percent, to 13.8 million unique visitors.
That is bad news for newspapers, which receive about 40 percent of their revenue from classified ads, according to Colby Atwood, the president of Borrell Associates, a consulting group that specializes in online advertising.
Ninety-nine percent! Can you say, “Holy crap!” boys and girls? I can.

This is true. Have you noticed the classified section of the Sunday newspaper. I looked at the CareerBuilder section, and it is getting thinner everytime I get the Sunday paper. However, the bad thing about Craigslist is that there are alot of nuts on the site. There is a lot of flaming going on if someone doesn’t like your ad.
