News Corp, owners of MySpace and, well, a lot of other properties, is taking its social networking blueprint to the streets. Here in C-town, for example, MyFoxCleveland.com is the new online solution of the local affiliate.

Totally Web 2.0.

Station personalities blog, users are invited to become more involved by doing things like voting on news items, add pictures and even setting up their own blogs. MySpace-like profiles are created for each participant. Don’t forget funny videos. And lots more.

Pretty cool. If they haven’t yet, I suspect this kind of social networking and user empowerment to continue via all their media properties. I have to wonder, however, How long before this phenomenon becomes overkill? Will people join, say, a dozen or more social networking-type sites?

And for what kind of sites does this make sense? Local media site? Maybe.

Jobs? Not so sure.
