I don’t watch much television anymore. The Internet, work, Netflix and life in general has pulled me away.
One show I do enjoy, however, is Heroes. A show so good, in fact, that it forces me to channel surf on Monday along with football. Not an easy achievement.
What really intrigues me these days, however, is the number of places I can see pretty much any show that’s on TV. Here’s a breakdown of ways to watch Heroes:
- Watch on NBC every Monday (free with commercials)
- See on NBC.com after the broadcast (free)
- Download on iTunes ($1.99)
- Watch on Google Video (free)
- Tivo (free, bypassing commercials)
- VCR (an oldie but goodie)
- Miss the season, catch it via Netflix (low monthly fee) or own it.
I may be missing some, but you get the idea. It ain’t the days of All In The Family anymore. Advertising has never been more difficult, while providing so much opportunity at the same time.
Recruitment advertising isn’t much different. In the Good Old Days (when newspapers ruled the world), there was one primary outlet for job content. (It came out every Sunday for those too young to care.)
Then along came the Web, which spawned a myriad of players, a phenomenon that continues to this day, as well as content provided by corporate Web sites themselves.
And don’t forget about blogs with jobs, social networking, search marketing and video. The playing field has flattened and is as long as the eye can see. It’s a Long Tail World afterall.
Success in the online employment space is becoming more and more difficult everyday, but I’m confident there will enough ‘Heroes‘ to go around. And just like the show, each one will have their own unique power.

Agree that heroes is one of the best shows on television, along with Battlestar Galactica. Both are, in a broad sense, about the best use of human resources.
