Troy Smith is pretty good.
He plays football. Quarterback to be exact.
His team is No. 1.
They beat up on Texas, Notre Dame and Michigan.
He won the Heisman Trophy.
He’s from Cleveland, Ohio.

The Browns are awful.
I guess what they do can be categorized as football.
Their team is one of the worst. Winless in their own division.
They can’t beat anyone.
They haven’t won a championship since 1964.
They need a good quarterback.

Part fun. Part viral marketing experiment. Part hating that the Browns aren’t even competitive. I launched DraftTroy.com this past weekend.

If you’re a Browns fan (and a surprising number of my readers are), a Buckeyes fan wanting to keep Troy in the same time zone or even a Steelers fan sick of the rivalry being a joke, then I invite you to visit Draft Troy.com today and sign the petition. Got a MySpace page? We need friends too.

    Joel,

I have been away for a while but are you finally writing about your Buckeyes? I am a Big Ten sellout. I am siding with Amybeth, Go Gators.

    I’ll see you on MySpace.

  2. Catbert Says:

How about a “Draft Tressel” site :

  3. adguide Says:

I’m a Vikings fan. Or at least, would like to be. :(

We’ll give you Brad (”My Best Decision Making Days Were in the 1990’s”) Johnson if you also agree to take Troy (”I Couldn’t Catch a Football If My Life Depended On It”) Williamson.

  4. Rosie Says:

I am a cleveland fan and a buckeye fan. I dont blam Troy for what happened I blame Roy hall and the whole damn team.I think if Romeo wants to keep his job he should draft Ted Ginn in the first round and Troy in the second, and we can call Cleveland land of Troy.I recommend trading a few wide outs (we know who they are) to free up some cash,Charlie frye as well, pick up a veteran Q.B. or Matt Schuab from Atlanta, then we will all witness something we have not seen in a while,a chance at the playoffs.

  7. not saying Says:

  9. trojanfan Says:

Come on, he was only a 5th round draft choice. He will never be a star in the NFL .Another wasted Heisman trophy

  10. trojanfan Says:

Michigan and Ohio State both suck and the bowl games proved it

  11. RepBast1984 Says:

Ohio State vs. Florida: 41-14, Florida
    Troy Smith passing: 4-14
    Troy Smith yards: 35

    Need I say more?

Ohio State’s strongest foes it beat:
    Michigan vs. USC: 32-18, USC

Texas vs. Iowa: 26-24, Texas (Iowa had a LOSING SEASON)

Notre Dame vs. LSU: 41-14, LSU

  12. TruBuckeye/Troy Smith fan Says:

Beat michigan 3 time in a row!
Lead the buckeys to winning the Fiiesta bowl and Kicking Brady Quinns Butt!
Lead our Buckeyes on the longest winning Streak in college football!
The most electrifying Quarterback in all college football.
the tripple threat, accurate passer, illusive runner, and can give it to one of our tough running tail backs.
Won the heisman with the biggest land slide victory in history (kicking brady Quinns butt again)
Won all his big games except one
Brought the buck back from 10-0 against Texas and Would have beat vince young in a head to head shoot out if he continued to start.
Won every game he started except 2 from 2004 till he enterd the 2007 Draft
Won 2 #1 and #2 mtch ups in the same season

Need I say more about the most electrifying Quarter back in the nation. Troy Smith

  13. TruBuckeye/Troy Smith fan Says:

    And also..
Troy Smith also matched the school record for throwing 4 Touchdowds in a half.
He also was won other awards for being the best QB in the country.
He is only 3 inches shorter than Brady Quinn, and Troys lines averaged heights of 6 foot 8 and he could still throw over them. with 4 interceptions in 4 years. ( average one a year)

By no fault of his, Troy was not given the opportunity to start 4 years like other quarterbacks. the only reason he didn’t start all 4 years is because OSU had high expectations of highschool stand out Justin Zwick, who could not rise to the collegate level and they continued to play him in front of Troy, even though Troy was better, for the mere promise of giving Justin the start upon his signing. i went to the OSU Spring game in our 2002 season, it was clear that Troy was the starter but the promise was prematurely made to give it to Justin so he got the start.

Troy did more in 3 years as a starting QB than all the others did in 4. Including Dru Stanton (Troy kicked his butt too) Troy kicked the butt of Chad Hennee, as well as every other Qb in the nation.

    87 percent heisman victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heisman trophy means the best overall college footnall player!!!!!!! End of discussion!!!!

  14. LONGHORNFAN Says:

HAHAHA, TROY SMITH AND VINCE YOUNG COMPARISON, TROY IS JUST LUCKY VINCE WENT TO THE NFL WHEN HE DID, OR TROY WOULDNT EVEN HAVE THAT HEISMAN, TRIPLE THREAT THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE NFL…. ALTHOUGH YOU CLEARLY CAN SEE, NCAA OR NFL, DOESNT MATTER TO VINCE, NOW THAT IS A TRIPLE THREAT, HE ALSO DID NOT CHOKE IN THE BIGGEST GAME OF HIS LIFE…. JUST A DAMN SHAME COLT MCCOY DOESNT HAVE ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY AT OHIO THIS YEAR… OH WELL………

  15. OSU#1 Says:

troy smith is a beast no one wants to give him a chance cause of how beasty he is

  16. Trubuckeye/TroySmith fan Says:

Colt McCoy give me a break. You are a comedian! He will never be a heisman nothing, he sucks. Why would he need another chance he got killed the first time and he played the whole game. At least in Troy defense he had to share time with Sucky justin zwick for some stupid reason during the year we played against vince and we still only lost by 2 points. We stomped texas by 3 touchdowns against sorry colt. Had Troy started the whole game against Vince he would have beat him!

  17. Trubuckeye/TroySmith fan Says:

    Exactly OSU#1

They know the brotha is beasty, they base so much on his height, it does not matter how tall he is, the brotha can play ball!!!

As a person, i met him, Ted Ginn Jr and Sr. they are all cool as hell!!!!!!

  18. whatever Says:

did you people see the championship game? he sucked! the big ten sucked last year (as evidenced by their crappy bowl record… they were what 2-5?). so his big numbers are a bit skewed. he clearly wasn’t even the better qb on the field and chris leak isn’t even in the NFL!

  19. Anonymous Says:

How about Troy Smith last huh? The mistake by the lake grabbed Anderson from us, we’re not letting another mistake like that happen again.

  20. Trubuckeye/TroySmith fan Says:

Guess who just beat the Steelers, in the pros as the starting QB for the Ravens? Troy Smith. So all you haters can shut up!

  1. Employment and Jobs Blog » What Will 2007 Bring to the Recruitosphere? Says:

[...] What will 2007 bring to the job seekers, employers and recruiters who make up the little corner of the world sometimes referred to as the “Recruitosphere”? Tough to say, but perhaps some late Christmas presents (or Hannukah, Kwanzaa or “Insert Holiday or Non-Religious Celebration of Choice Here” presents) will be delivered. For Joel Cheesman, whose blog I read almost daily, perhaps a 2007 Recruiting.com “Best Blog Award”, since he’s already taken the 2006 award and graciously accepted with a toast. I’m sure what Joel would REALLY like, however, is for his Cleveland Browns to draft Troy Smith. [...]
