Search guru Andy Beal outlines how Google’s blog search has surpassed Technorati as the search engine of choice for chasing down your favorite blog content.

Google’s Blog Search has taken over the #1 spot from Technorati, thanks to a link placed on the homepage of Google News. Hitwise explains how that helped the Google service leapfrog Technorati in just a few weeks.

This begs the question: What’s up with Google Base?

The day Google started integrating boxes into job-related Web searches, I thought it would result in a huge increase in the number of users going to Base. That hasn’t happened.

The growth of Google’s blog search outlined above seems to prove that they can turn on the faucet with popular content whenever they choose. But they apparently haven’t figured out how to do so with Base. Although not popular with everyone, their new Tips may be the answer.

To date, significant growth in Google Base has eluded the search giant, but they are tinkering. I wouldn’t bet against them getting it right sooner or later.

Google has the occasional miss. For example, google video. Youtube kicked its arse on that one…and to my understanding MySpace video is getting more uploads than youtube..although they are less usefull videos (my opinion).

So…for googlebase to be a failure measured against the google yardstick…not such a stretch.
