Say you’re a local job site, recruiter or employer in Anytown, USA. Wouldn’t it be nice to know when someone has a question about getting a job in your local area, or even within a specific job category you’re targeting? No charge?

Checkout Yahoo! Answers.

By far the most popular of the online Q & A offerings, Y! Answers is a treasure trove of targeted traffic. Do the following:

  1. Go to Y! Answers.
  2. Do a search. Say, “Houston jobs.” (You’ll find over 400 questions regarding employment in H-town.)
  3. Now answer any questions that are relevant to openings at your company or listings on your job site, telling them how you can benefit them - with a link to your site, of course.
  4. You’re done.

I posted a question recently as a test and was amazed at the number of replies I received. Savvy marketers are clearly using this to their advantage. Need another reason to get into the Y! Answers game as an employment site? How ’bout the fact that Answers has made its way onto HotJobs’ homepage and is creeping into Web search results?

Think keeping up with all the questions is too labor intensive? Simply do a search and sign up for the RSS feed. The questions will come to you like blog subscriptions. Other than that, you’ll need a Yahoo! account and have to ask questions as well, but anyone with an Internet connection should have a Yahoo! account and everyone has questions.

Joel good idea except most of the questions are closed to new answers. Now what?

  3. Doron Says:

Chrisr2: use advanced search to find open questions where you can contribute.

Thanks doron. Yahoo should make it more like LinkedIn’s answers which lets you tab between open and closed questions.
