E-mail spam is bad. Poorly done e-mail spam is even worse. Check this:

subject job
mailed-by bounce.secureserver.netI saw your job that you had posted and thought
that you may want to try another site too
www.thejobplanet.comJust thought it might help you.
Start with the obvious that I don’t know who this is or that I don’t know exactly how I got to be a target. Now dig deeper:
- They’re promoting a (really bunk) “job site” called Job Planet, but the e-mail comes from some insurance domain.
- It’s not even made out to me specifically in the To field, obviously marking it as bulk mail.
- The message contains no contact information from the sender and no way to opt-out. Violations of CAN-SPAM.
It’s a shame we’re still dealing with such waste. For e-mail marketers who do business the right way, spam is a cancer. I can’t begin to fathom how much garbage employers (and job seekers) have to go through on a regular basis.
There is something you can do, however. If you get such messages, report them to the FTC by sending the e-mail to spam@uce.gov. That’s where the above message is going, in addition to being reported to my e-mail service provider.
Rant over.

it sounds like you went through a lot. I could use a fellow crusader to help me. I got email about my mortgage.

It just so happened that we were in the process of reviewing a feed from The Job Planet for inclusion in our results when we read this. We already had doubts, so it was certainly timely. Email addresses have been suppressed to protect the innocent – nobody likes spam, after all…

Joel Cheesman is well known and well respected, although it’s worth
noting that we have no relationship with him. Your evasive response to
our good faith effort to let you explain or rebut his post only lends
weight to his assertions.

They may get reported for spam, but they just got a lot of hits to their site. While passing them on to the authorities may be helpful, the best solution is to get a good spam filtering package that will block this type of message. When the blocking software fails you can set up rules in your email reader program. Rules that focus on the sender are essentially useless. Rules that move messages with key words, phrases and strings of text in the subject and message body to spam folders work really well.

so cheez… did you delete and block?
