connection between youtube v. everyone and internet recruiting? hell if i know!

March 23rd, 2007

I’m at a loss.
By now, the world is more than aware of the current battle royale that is Google/YouTube vs., well, just about everyone else. I won’t rehash the details, but I do have a 200-level bleacher seat and a cold one, ready to enjoy the action.
As with many posts, I try to take the […]

new york times on social networking: ‘not enough revenue’

March 21st, 2007

If you’re considering a social networking start-up, you might want to read a New York Times article entitled, “Popularity Might Not Be Enough.” (registration required)
That is, rather than seek venture financing and hire a staff, it may be better for one or two people to create a relatively simple site — say, a hobbyist blog […]

the ppc dilemma

March 21st, 2007

We’ve been utilizing pay-per-click advertising for awhile now, and it’s just becoming too expensive. We want to take some of that money and optimize our site to get more free traffic instead.

simply hired goes political via myspace

March 20th, 2007

I recently checked out MySpace’s new political section dubbed Impact, which highlights the current presidential candidates and their profiles. Be sure to peruse our nutty Cleveland-area congressman.
I was impressed to see SimplyHired’s search plugged into the page promoting nonprofit jobs. Featured listings and the default location was even customized to my own. Well done.

March 19th, 2007

I’m not surprised to hear Jobster’s Jason Goldberg question the direction of Jobster-owned Recruiting.com. Its Digg-inspired offering has followed the same path of the few dictating the content of the many. As a result, “top” content tends to be a hodgepodge of the flamings and clutter of about a dozen users.
For recruitosphere zealots, it’s […]

jobcircle video

March 19th, 2007

JobCircle’s MySpace page hasn’t been up for long, but they’ve already created a simple video touting their career fairs. They’ve even integrated the video into their main site. (Love the cheesy background tunes, by the way.)

does search beat remarkable?

March 19th, 2007

Would you rather be remarkable, or have kickass search rankings?
I recently finished the book Zag, which regurgitates the now-traditional marketing-speak of differentiation and being remarkable as the keys to success. Frankly, I can’t debate the benefits of those two virtues, but while reading, I kept asking myself:
Does remarkable really matter when you have Google on […]
