By now, every industry person knows John Sumser will be taking over at Recruiting.com. Those particularly in-the-know are aware the selection has sparked a good deal of (mostly private) protest.
I myself have been trying to find some silver lining in the move and tend to fall in the “wait and see” camp. Sumser is a smart cat, and I can’t wait for him to open himself up to comments for the first time ever. Just don’t count on them being anonymous, however … oh well, a boy can dream. Here’s to also hoping Jobster gives Sumser the resources to take it wherever he wishes.
That said, here’s my biggest concern:
In the announcement on Jobster, Jason Goldberg says, “… John Sumser was named executive editor at Recruiting.com — the leading user-generated recruiting content site on the web.” Now, combine that with this: In a recent Web radio interview via The Animal, Sumser refers to user generated content as “loser generated content.”
Call me cynical but putting someone in charge of a user-generated site who believes its foundation is built by “losers” might be a recipe for disaster. But hey, that’s half the fun, right?

What is Jason Davis up to? Why did he leave?

Sumser can be counted on to say nasty things- its part of his schtick.
I think its a good thing even though I have been a target in person and online- it makes for more interesting reading and real polemics is a lost art anyway.
I know of a certain blogger in Cleveland who says what he thinks from time to time also….thats why his blog has a good readership…..

Is it possible to even teach an “old dog” new tricks? Let’s wait and see what Sumser can do with Recruiting.com. He may surprise everybody considering I have yet to figure out what Interbiznet.com is.

You have to admire the creativity of his insults. He basically insults anyone who’s ever posted a photo on Flickr, edited an entry on Wikipedia and any number of other sites with one succinct word change.
