careerbuilder to shut-off simply hired?

June 26th, 2007

Rumor has it CareerBuilder is close to restricting vertical job search engine Simply Hired from spidering its job content any longer. Reasons why are unclear, but seem to point to SH’s ongoing creep into the job board space.

If true, it marks the first time since Craigslist put the smackdown that a major provider has swatted the spiders. And, if true, with Jobster diving headfirst into similar waters recently, can they be far behind from CareerBuilder’s off button? Probably not. Stay tuned.

If this is true — Indeed now has an interesting dilemma…like SimplyHired, their ultimate goal has to be to route around the job boards and provide HR solutions directly for employers…thats where the real money is (unless like Kayak they can convince the job boards to pay them for their organic search results.) But as soon as they make the switch, they’ll get shut down. So they have to have enough traffic built up and make deals very fast before CareerBuilder and Monster shuts them down.

Makes for a very interesting game of chicken.

Who really cares about Simply Hired anyway? They only good thing they ever did to drive traffic was MySpace. With a nice sampling of postings, Indeed beats them by 10x
