Aside from the ongoing soap opera that is Jobster, featuring Recruiting Blogs this week, an interesting strategy – commonly known in SEO circles as link bait – was on display regarding how to get backlinks to your Web site:
Good ol’ fashioned controversy.
On June 21st, Recruiting Blogs’ Jason Davis made the following plea:
If you would be kind enough to add RecruitingBlogs.com to your blog or website, I will add you to a draw to win 6 months of ZoomInfo. Make sure you leave a comment here letting me know it has been added. I will also add your blog to the blog list on RecruitingBlogs.com.
Not sure how many sites took him up on the offer, but it wasn’t nearly the impact as the linking back to his new site as a result of Jason v. Jason had, including a backlink from the highly-coveted Techcrunch.
Everyone will be talking about the PR suicide Jason Goldberg committed by going after the industry’s much-loved Jason Davis for a long time. However, the link love Goldberg indirectly showered on Recruiting Blogs may have a longer-lasting effect by helping the start-up gain traction on Jobster-owned Recruiting.com via search engine rankings, which rely heavily on link popularity.

There were I think 5 or 6 total. I am glad you posted this cause it reminds me I need to promote that contest. There is one day left.

Best way is to post on the top blogs – but u need to watch out that your site/blog does not end up a mess of banners etc. Focus is important – Ive found that out to my cost a couple of times!
Interesting blog – would be cool to do an HRUK v HRUSA disussion sometime

I feel the problem with all of this SEO just creates a poor search experience for the internet surfer. What is it worth getting a high page rank if someone searching for your site finds a bunch of optimized junk?

I wouldn’t call it a link bait, its merely a link exchange plea…
