This one’s for all the domainers out there. Well, the domainers might already know this stuff, so maybe it’s for the non-domainers.

You’re no doubt familiar with the fact that numbers on a telephone keypad are associated with letters. The number “2″ represents A, B and C, for example. The practice is a little less common since dotcom addresses are typically better to promote and easier to remember for consumers, but the occasional 1-800-555-CARS is still around. Now, what if you combined both strategies?

I received an email recently from a guy who is eagerly gobbling up names in the employment space. Checkout 562464.com (Jobing), for example. Apparently corporations going after anyone doing this on legal grounds is pretty pointless, as numbers can represent anything, or nothing. Sneaky, huh? There are actually entire businesses based on this concept.

The hope is that as cell phone use increases worldwide and mobile Internet connections improve, dialers will more likely type in 5627.com instead of jobs.com. Time will tell whether this takes off to any significant degree and whether squatters can cash in or not. My Blackberry doesn’t sync in this manner, for instance. But it certainly wouldn’t hurt to secure a few good keywords or at least secure your brand(s), if still possible.

I secured 243394323.com (CHEEZHEAD) today. Ya’ know, just in case. Interestingly, the first three digits spelling Monster are 666. Probably just a coincidence.

2282378 is going to be on EVERYONE’S speed dial…or would it be in their “favorites”? Since your Blackberry doesn’t synch this way, I guess you won’t be on Catbert’s “A” list.

BTW-I picked game 6 for Brady’s first start also. Great minds think alike.

    Hi Joel,

We managed to get 1-866-541-JOBS (1-866-541-5627) for http://www.jobsinsearch.com a couple of months ago.

We always put both versions of the number on the site but having a phone number with JOBS in does look good!

    Mike

Google have owned 466453.com for years. I quite often use that shortcut on my phone, so maybe there’s potential.
