I can’t help but share a comment I received regarding Jobster’s latest e-mail promotion. Pay particular attention to the subject line.

Via e-mail:

I feel like I am in the toddler’s section of K-Mart and the Blue-Light Special alert just sounded … ‘Attention Jobster Shoppers: We now have a Blue Light Special going on in aisle 10. Job postings for just $15. Just look for the flashing blue light. Thank you for shopping at Jobster.’

We witnessed newspaper go down because of their ignorance to the changing media landscape. F*ck-nuts like Jobster are trying to kill the Internet with the commoditization of what should be a valuable product.

It just gets funnier the more I read it. Jobster is a dream come true.

I’m confused. While I find Jobster’s business strateg[y|ies] confusing at best, isn’t the “commoditization of once-valuable products” one of the keys to the success of the Internet? And I fail to see the connection between Jobster’s failures and those of the newspapers. The newspapers were at the wrong end of the democratization of content publishing; by the emailers own admission Jobster is lowering barriers to entry, which seemingly puts them in the opposite camp of Big Ink. How does this kill the Internet? Isn’t this one of the primary forces driving the Internet’s growth?

    Hi Joel,

Am I the only one noticing that your new branding is rather Jobster-like? Nice!

Thanks for the pub on our special pricing promotion!

Not sure we’ll hasten the demise of the newspaper industry or the Internet, but we’ll continue to focus on innovating. We’re working on changing an industry and providing a valuable alternative to traditional options. That’s not always comfortable for everyone.

Anonymous, Jobster provides employers with access to valuable audiences. We got our start helping employers build private, referral-based Talent Networks. We’ve since expanded our offering to provide employers with access to public Talent Networks on Jobster.com, on Facebook, and most recently across our affiliate network.

    Best regards,

    Question,

I hear so much about Jobster from their company PRing and marketing and speaking and doing all the things that one can do with 50 Million bucks…but I never hear from any happy customers…

Do people actually find talent on their site? Why do none of their users ever come out in Jobster’s defense when they get attacked on a regular basis…

    Just curious…thoughts?

    Cheez-

Congratulations on becoming the Scoble of recruitment. It sure would be nice to help the industry or provide alternative recommendations to companies instead of always bashing companies that are taking an alternative approach! Just a thought. – Jason

Only wish I had Scoble’s traffic and PageRank to go along with the reputation.

There may be some confusion here … The comment above, in blockquote, is not mine. It’s from an industry contact. Sorry for any confusion.
