the neverending redesign

August 30th, 2007

Unless you’re consuming this post via RSS or e-mail, you’re perusing the third iteration of Cheezhead. My professional life is almost equally divided between the blocking-and-tackling of SEO and the creative outlet that is blogging. Without one, I’d probably be far worse at the other. That said, it’s the places a blog can go that fascinate me the most. It allows me to be whoever and do whatever I want. It’s my stage. My show.

I have a hard time understanding self-proclaimed creative types who don’t continually push the envelope. Seth Godin’s blog (the first RSS feed I ever subscribed to and my biggest influence in starting a blog) has had the same look-and-feel since I can remember. I just can’t do that. He changed the main photo once, only to change it back after his readers complained. To me that’s akin to a band changing its album cover because the suits don’t like it.

The current design reflects a progression in both look and direction.

With the launch of Xtra Cheezhead, the site has taken a significant step from being about me exclusively to being more about the content and the community. It may be fuzzy to most, but it’s clear to my eyes. The experimentation of bringing new voices to the table will no doubt be rewarding for me, guest authors and consumers alike.

Or maybe not. It’ll still be my album cover nonetheless.

    Nope, all positive thus far.

I was going to say, I definitely like this redesign better than any of the others.

Purrr…I like the new design. No more leering photo of Joel staring at me.

I like this design a lot. Very clean. Very simple. Three columns to the right rarely comes across well, but this iteration comes across right.

I change stuff all the time too…keep doing it!

I’m in agreeance with you Joel. Everyone is always telling me to be consistent, don’t change anything, because you want to have a stable brand. Some things are too good to change but not many. And variety makes things fun.

I liked the eyes, it helped set the site apart from others. Do like the color scheme tho.
