I admit to not knowing much about Bounty Jobs when running into them at Kennedy in Orlando earlier this month. Glad I did, though, and was able to have a chat with co-founder Ron Elitzur.

Since launching a year ago, Bounty Jobs has been quietly going about its business and growing at a healthy pace (they shared internal numbers with me in confidence). For 2008, they plan to increase their marketing initiatives.

If you’re unaware of the company, consider this your intro:

The concept of bringing an eBay-style, market-driven system to recruiting seems long overdue, but opinions of the model and organization were mixed. Some I spoke with argued it took too much of the human element out of the process. However, others underscored that many things in online recruitment have dehumanized things already.

Others said the payment process has had its share of negatives. Like most things out there, do your homework, but I think it’s a company worth investigating if you’re in the market or are simply a junkie like me.

Hey Joel, Nice Interview. There are benefits and disadvantages here. too many to list but the main points are as follows.

    1. Inexperienced people on both sides ( recruiters and hr) will flock to the idea.

    2. The language they sometimes use to describe the system is way off base including the selling points they use. especially in this video

    3. The comment about the fees being pushed down because of efficieny reminds me of one of the all time sucker lines given to recruiters. Goes something like this. ” Listen Mr recruiter, I have 10 jobs available for you so it makes perfect sense for you to lower your fees beacuse of all of the business you will do with us.” – Don’t ever fall for that one.

    4. The difference between Ebay and BountyJobs is big. Ebay brokers products that can’t say no. BountyJobs brokers people and people can say no and they often do.

There is no doubt, that there is a place in the market for companies like BountyJobs.com and I am sure they are real busy pushing info back and forth but for this to be big and I mean real big, they need to push lots of deals and I think, it will be tough.

Having said all of this, I have greatly enjoyed my conversations with Gary Stark who works for BountyJobs.com he has a realistic and honest approach and way about him. I did an interview with him at the ERE show a little while back. here is the link:

I am a huge fan of the effort and the technology behind BountyJobs just so we are clear and they are dedicated to changing the way the way things are done. It’s just making placements is one of those things that needs systems to enhance the relationships between recruiter and hiring manager/HR – Not remove them so less money can change hands.
