“Increase your job posting applies by over 20% by embedding a recruiting video profile into your online job ads!”

Or so says JobCircle, currently touting its new video recruiting profiles. According to an e-mail that went out to prospects,

We now provide the ability for JobCircle members (and non-members too) to purchase a 30-45 second Video Recruiting Profile. We handle all of the production and assembly, and we host the infomercial for you. Setting up your video profile is a very easy, and you can use it to enhance all of your other online recruiting efforts.

The cost is $1,695 and outsourced to a third party. Employers can add a “video link in your Monster, Dice, Craigslist and CareerBuilder postings.” That probably doesn’t mean embed, however. Last I heard, Monster - partnered with Media Dash - frowns on embedded video within their job postings. Embeds are integrated into JobCircle listings and profile pages.

When asked if videos were placed on YouTube or given to customers in a common format to use as they choose, president Joe Stubblebine said,

No, they lease the video from us for a period of 1 year or 24,000 views, whichever comes first. They can buy replenishment view packs if they have a heavy viewing load. Turnaround time is typically 3 business days after we gather requirements from the client.

The client is free to embed the video anywhere they’d like, but we handle all the streaming, hit counters, etc. If they are a JobCircle customer (which they do not need to be), then we embed the video in their postings on JobCircle.com as well. If they want to buy and own the video for propagation to YouTube, it costs extra copyrights, voiceover royalties, etc.).

I checked out a few of their samples. Although the production value is good, I don’t see any value for the job seeker when it comes to viewing them. Most job seekers will just see through the scripted corporate language. Today’s job seeker is looking for more inside information about a company than whatever they can find on their website.

I’m a big proponent of video, although only providing 30-45 seconds AND not allowing upload to YouTube, and “other” viral video avenues, are just a couple of short sighted points in trying to control this new PPV revenue stream.

Joe’s a smart guy, I’m excited to see this new stream evolve in the next 12 months.

From what I’ve heard employer videos are most effective in weeding out job seekers who are searching for a specific type of corporate culture. Even though the scripted corporate language might be useless to a seeker, many times a quick glimpse into the company’s office and its employees is enough to decide that a company is/is not for them.

As the president and ceo of a national healthcare staffing firm I am always looking for new ways to share our message. While traditional advertising is one way to accomplish this, and job boards certainly have a place in the healthcare recruitment realm, recruiting in our sector is very dynamic. The video profile offered by JobCircle provides yet another method for sharing information with prospective employees.

The value is great (less than a typical ad in almost any newspaper) and I was very pleased with the production process and the final outcome. Using JobCircle is easy in that they did all the heavy lifting and produced a video profile that I am pleased with.

Although it is difficult to measure ROI at this point, the investment was so small that we could not pass up the opportunity to add to our arsenal of recruitment tools! JobCircle does an amazing job and we will continue to work them them and explore new ways of attracting talent!
