So let me understand this, Careerbuilder, the top Internet job advertising vehicle, which is part of a multi billion dollar industry is jumping cause some guy in Ohio with a blog put up a few links. In the Wizard of OZ, Dorthy and Gang went off to see the all powerful Wizard and when they finally met it was Toto who pulled the curtain so all could see a decrepit man behind the scenes pulling the levers and strings.

So Joel – guess you are the Toto of the Online recruiting industry – keep pulling those curtains away so we can all see whats behind……..

“Links to illegal content on other sites can be dangerous”? What’s dangerous is Wieden’s (and apparently Career Builder’s) lack of perspective. And I think the problem here is that Wieden ISN’T a PR agency, they’re an advertising agency. Otherwise, they’d know the value of this type of dialog — or the devalue in this case.

I’m not sure what to think of the anonymous comment from a complicit IP address, but the voicemail sounded fairly polite and professional, and not lawyerly at all. They could have sent a DMCA takedown notice to your ISP and possibly had your website taken down. While the video isn’t even hosted on your site, even links to illegal content on other sites can be dangerous.

CBDR is trying to build their brand with cartoonish commercials – they should start by changing their company name. Branding 101 states: don’t name your company for what it is ie (Joe’s Garage, Jones Medical Supply, ‘careerbuilder’) Need to start with name change and total site over hall if trying to change their image as a boring job board.

BTW – as a jobseeker – CBDR is by far the worst site – cluttered with multiple listings of fin. services and insurance jobs in every town of every state. You need to scroll through 2 pages to see another company’s jobs listed (for the same date).
