collegerecruiter.com acquires entryleveljobs.net

Acquisition. All the kids are doin’ it.

Niche player CollegeRecruiter.com has acquired fellow niche player Entry Level Jobs.net. I’d explain the target audience, but it’s hopefully pretty self-explanatory from the domains. CR chief Steven Rothberg is one of our favorite people, so consider us all warm-and-fuzzy inside in light of this news.

Said Rothberg:

We acquired the site after the owner noticed that his site and ours ranked consistently at or near the top of the Google search results for short tail keyword phrases such as ‘entry level job’ and ‘entry level jobs.’ He was focusing most of his efforts on his other ventures so was not doing as good a job monetizing the large amount of job seeker and employer traffic as he would have liked to. We’re pretty good at monetizing traffic so it became apparent to both parties very quickly that his site was worth more to us than it was to him.

It’s no surprise to me that search equity plays into acquisitions, but its level of importance even takes me aback sometimes. Alongside local penetration, rankings and organically-generated search traffic are a consistent theme with most buyers and shoppers as of late.

The new site will plug into CollegeRecruiter.com’s growing network of sites and partners and serve as additional real estate to cross-post job content. According to Rothberg, this strategy serves to drive “hundreds of thousands of students seeking internships and recent graduates hunting for entry level jobs and other career opportunities” to his content.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
