An anonymous comment came in yesterday that was tied to a Monster Worldwide IP address. Says the source:
More layoffs at Monster today. Senior VP’s of Marketing and other marketing layoffs on a global scale. They spent millions on commercials and went way over budget and now they have to cut heads to pay the bills.
I’m traveling, so finding time for confirmation is impossible. And, since I’m invisible to Monster’s PR machine anyway, it would still likely be hearsay. However, the fact that this comment did come from Monster’s servers does give it some level of credibility.

I work for an Internet property that Monster used to invest heavily in with online media. They have decreased quite a bit over the past year and cancelled all together a short time ago. They blamed it on the offline marketing investments…..ie. the commercials. I don’t get it. Monster is an online destination. You tell me….it is easier for people to reach their site via the Internet or the TV? Doesn’t seem like rocket science to me. I have posed this scenario to other online properties that invest heavily in online media and they are stumped as well. Not saying commercials are a bad thing but to sacrifice your bread and butter for a few primetime ads seems backwards to me.
