‘linkedin recruiter’ takes things up a notch
March 10th, 2008
LinkedIn, now 20 million users and 500 employers strong, has announced a new corporate solutions product, dubbed LinkedIn Recruiter. The new offering allows recruiters to group candidates in folders and tag them with comments.
They’ve also upgraded their candidate search feature. Recruiters can now search by title, company or keywords to find candidates. Corporate staffing departments with LinkedIn Recruiter can view up to 1,000 search results instead of the 500 available in other accounts.
Says George Seiters, sr. director of corporate solutions product marketing:
By making it easier for teams to collaborate, LinkedIn Recruiter streamlines the entire talent acquisition process so teams can spend more time getting candidates through the interview process rather than sifting through piles of resumes.
I test drove the new features last week and couldn’t help thinking over and over how important recruiting must be to LinkedIn’s business. Employment is clearly a money-maker and they’re putting in the resources to take advantage of their already-influential place in the ecosystem. Job boards better take note.
LinkedIn’s even hip to the lingo:
Unlike other recruiting tools that only enable users to reach active inbound candidates, LinkedIn Recruiter also gives users the unique advantage of being able to find and communicate with passive candidates.
And who doesn’t want passive candidates? Whatever those are, it sure sounds good, doesn’t it? Pricing is based on a per seat / case-by-case basis. Click here to demo LinkedIn Recruiter now.

This seems like a great idea from Linked In, but it has me wondering if this poses a threat to the executive recruiting business in general. First, monster.com rendered the almighty database obsolete. Now, Linked In with their recommendations and visible connections is going to make it even more difficult good recruiters to distinguish themselves.

Another important note is that the offering doesn’t apply to staffing firms, unless I’m just getting mistreated. The ability to manage a major staffing account on LinkedIn is rudimentary at best. Of course this is a conscious decision by LinkedIn to prevent itself from becoming like every other job board - teeming with unsavory recruiters :)
