monster’s top sales rep jumping ship too?

Tue, Apr 8, 2008

Featured, News

The rats are apparently leaving the sinking ship in droves …

A reliable source tells us senior Internet recruitment consultant Bonnie Lieberman, rumored to be the No. 1 sales rep at Monster with “over $3 million in contract sales last year and over 9 years tenure in the company,” has added her letter of resignation to the growing pile of evacuees.

Word of advice: If you’re not actively poaching the top-shelf talent left at Monster, well, you should be. Serious smell of blood in the water, folks.

UPDATE: We’ve just been tipped off that Brian Corey, area vice president of sales on the east coast and 8-year veteran of the organization, left MNST last week as well.

  1. BAABOOEY Says:

Lieberman the # 1 salesrep? Hardly!! Maybe the #1 toilet paper, Lobster taking, family smuggling rep. Purely a loud and obnoxious woman.

The #1 rep at Monster was RIF’d last August after 10 years. Rumor has it that he generated over $18million for the Consumer part of Monster.

Lieberman was a joke and embarrasment!

  2. strengthluckjoy Says:

There are many other, very talented employees in all areas that still work at Monster. And, they’ve added a number of new, talent to the pool. Your constant Monster insults are very tiring.

  3. Jason Whitman Says:

I enjoyed working with Brian when I was on the agency side. I hope he lands somewhere great.

    Jason

  4. Jerry C Says:

The constant Monster insults are extrememly well justified. The talent has either been fired, laid off, chased out, or given up and pursued other opportunities. The place is absolutely upside down right now and to try and say otherwise indicates that you are either on the senior mgmt team, a major stock holder or hitting the bloody mary’s a little early this morning.

  5. jh Says:

They aren’t justified. Every company has their warts, Monster included, but it’s still go a whole bunch of great, talented people who love it and it’s brand. True, the company got too fat with the success of the late 90’s and early 00’s, but it’s a lot leaner and even more meaner. It’s kicking ass big time in Canada and the rest of the world as well. #1 in Canada with the most innovative solutions available. As for Leiberman, didnt know her…she was one of many ‘performers’. As for Corey? He was fired.

  6. Ex Monster Rep Says:

Jh is out of his her mind. Brian Corey lived and breathed Monster for 8 plus years, he was not fired, got sick of the bullsh*t and left , had a tough tine watching a company he loved go to crap. “a whole bunch of talented people who love it”? Most of the talented vets have left…..love it? Walk the 3rd floor in Maynard and ask people how much they love it. I have very close friends that are still there and the word most often heard to describe it is “unbearable”….. most sales people / managers left worth anything ar enetworking and looking hard to leave…..this Canadian loving idiot hasn’t got a clue…how could you not know Bonnie? Love her or hate her……everyone knew Bonnie!

  7. current monster rep Says:

listen, ex monster rep was probably let go cause he/she could simply not get it done. yes the 3rd floor may not be the fun filled easy place it was in years past when anyone with a pulse could make 30 calls a day and make 100k+ per year. yes the company made some major mistakes i feel in the US market. But recruitment is not a one market industry anymore. CB has a miniscule presence anywhere outside the US. Not to be make this a political blog but this is now a global economy not a local one.

let me tell you something reps at monster may b8tch and moan but that is horsesh*t. if you work hard, are honest with your clients, really put in full 40+ hours a week you will not only make good money you will make more than the industry average.

i am 26 college educated person who is willing to put in the work and hits quota cosistently and is very happy making well over 100k per year. so monster decided having 40+, 50+ year old sales reps who want 200k+ per year but give the same results i do may not be the best way to go. AND YOU BLAME THEM? monster is still a young company and perhaps they are just having a changing of the guard. or perhaps bonnie and brian just had better opportunities thrown there way..is that monster’s fault as well?

you slam a company whose main objective and value proposition is that we bring people and companies together to better their lives? what the hell does the cheese do to help anyone out?

  8. Ex Monster Rep Says:

Wow, 26 AND a real live college grad? You must know everything about business let alone sales. Well “listen”, here is what you do not know , that’s anything about me. I was not let go, left on my own. Simply could not get it done? I was a memeber of Presidents club EVERY year I was there. In fact, I hit my number even in the last month I was there. Let me give you a quick education, the demise started with the departure of AOL & MSN, it was got even better when we hired “100 reps in a 100 days”, most of which had never sold….excellent strategy in a saturated market place wouldn’t you say? Here is the real difference between newbies like you and sales professionals like me, I am NEVER satisfied with what I make, that is what helps me be successful. Good luck making 75K this year, hope your mom doesn’t raise your rent!! I will laugh my ass off when all you sales rock stars get laid off or Sal sells for pennies on the dollar. 26 , unemployed and living moms basement is a sad way to exist. Not to worry sales rock star, the end of April will be here soon enough and you can call all your non-renewals and drop your pants on price….oh I forgot, you are a sales profesional, you only sell at rate card. Typical Monster newbie, drinking the punch and he thinks he is a sales professional, what a joke.

  9. Team Sal Says:

Hey Current Monster Rep, way too much cool aid…I hope you make the team post April 30th Lay-Offs…Or you can join Cookers team, I have ordered him to hire 400 field sales professionals in the next 40 days and drive all those single job posting you been selling to ecomm!!!

  10. MC Says:

    Ex-Monster Rep = BIIIITTTTEEERRRRRR

  11. Ex Monster Rep Says:

Not bitter at all, I loved the company and would have stayed for 10 more years, except it’s a company headed in the wrong direction. Missed Q1 numbers by the largest margin in the history of the company. Not 1 industry expert left in upper mangement. Not bitter, just smart enough to get off a sinking ship. If you or anybody else thinks it will get better, you are not very bright. Wait until April 30th!If you knew Bonnie at all, there is one thing you would understand, if it still was a place where a talented sales person could make a real good living, she would still be in that seat. Bitter no, sad about the Monster I knew vs. the Monster of today, yes. Thanks for your heartfelt and insightful post though…..well thought out. Good luck to you and your book deal, I’m sure with your wit and writing style you will be on the NYT’s best seller list in no time. Now go sell a single job…..oh wait Sandesh in India took that account from you.

  12. Current Rep Says:

So now it is April 30th for the Lay-offs? Interesting, seeing last month people said it was March 30th.

When you are wrong, will you post again that it is May 30th?

It sounds that you probably had an easy territory, and were here making 100k for not working too hard. It probably got a little too hard for you, so you left, and are now bitter that you cant make as much as you did in 2005-2006. Or maybe you are mad becasue no one ever reutrns your voice mails, or you have a job where you get hung up on, etc.

I make a good deal of $ at Monster. I am on pace to shatter what I made last year too.

  13. Ex Monster rep Says:

If there are no layoffs ( hope you and any of your buddies are not on plan, Sal is not a big fan of layoffs and will look to terminate first, like Patrissi and Lynch) , not only will I not post a new date, I won’t post again. Again, you know nothing about me, but I will tell you I started off in a sh*tty little part of a southern state. I always worked hard and always made well over 100K ( well over 200 in my best year, since you are throwing around earnings ). As far as leaving voice mail or getting hung up on, I am back to outside sales, where I started and where the real money is. Your comments show your immaturity……the new comp plan is a joke and any rep that undertsands comp payouts knows that. I have freinds that are good reps still there and they are looking at 35 -50% paycuts…..should talented people stick around for that? Bring in MORE revenue than 2007 and get paid less? That is rediculous. Monster has a way of making young reps believe this is the best they will ever do….it’s just simply not true. Good luck….

  14. Current Rep Says:

Yeah you are in Outside Sales, but you spend time commenting on a message thread about your FORMER company.

I mean come on buddy, dont you find this a tad bit pathetic? Let it go.

I dont get how you made so much money here, now are raking it in “where the real money is”, and left on your own terms from here. BUT you feel the need to come comment on how bad it is here?

    Get a life.

  15. Ex Monster rep Says:

Listen Douc*e bag, it’s called a Blackberry, being a big time 26 y/o college grad, you should of heard of one. I am being very honest about what I made at Monster.Ask any good vet left, ask a few people headed to Cabo how much money they made last year and what they will make this year. I just left a client lunch , you however sit in your cube at Monster and type on this site, now that is pathetic. Heard that Sal is checking IP addresses from inside Monster , hope he finds you posting on company time and shit cans you. I am done with you, you are a little b*tch and you are pissed bacause you know what I am saying is true. You probably live in Indy or AZ in an economically depressed community, so making 80K makes you a star, you and your sad little income potential bore me….

  16. Team Sal Says:

Great posts “Ex Monster rep” you are spot on and I wish you could come back to the company I am trying to fix…The only thing I have left is a bunch of pukes like “Current Rep” who is a 26 year old culinary grad with no sales experience that had his Cheerio’s pissed in a dozen times…The sales talent on my floor has never been worse…Don’t you worry “Ex Monster Rep”, I have Dave and Phil pulling IP addresses as we speak and will put sugar in everyone of these SOB’s gas tank’s when I get their names…Brooklyn’s in the House!!! Hey Ex Monster Rep, “Who Rock’s the House”?

  17. Current Rep Says:

So you post messages about your FORMER company……………………..from your blackberry?????

“I just left a client lunch”.

Someone get this man the Salesman of the Year Trophy ASAP.

    You are pathetic.

  18. PP "The Truth" Says:

26 years old, WOW! You must be a wizard at the FOOSBALL table! Yes, you have a good job, you should be proud that you work there. You just have a great deal of learning to do about the space and competition. It is good to drink the Kool Aid, but Trump is pissing blood right now after a 2 year war with CB and you may want to look in the bed pan before slurping.

Competition is getting stronger and renewals are getting smarter and not falling for the “Banana in the tail pipe trick” Renew now and I can give you a discount and more jobs.

“Bringing people together to advance there lives” Please keep in mind that tagline was put together a long time ago by a guy who was recently laid off by Monster!

    PP - THE TRUTH!

  19. Ex Monster rep Says:

You know what is pathetic? Your W2! I would bet evreything I own on selling against a little puke like you.BTW, I have so many trophies from my days at Monster, I don’t have much room for many more…..You want me to send you a few? You can cross out my name and put yours on them so you can feel successful…..little phone monkey b*tch…….go ahead respond with how awesome you are how much money you make…LOSER. Can’t wait for the hammer to drop on the telesales department. Do you want me to give you a call so I can teach you how to use a Blackberry? I give you a call when I get back from Cleveland and we can do a little inservice. Don’t worry I will speak very slowly so you can keep up. Now go make more dials……

  20. Current Rep Says:

Who told you what my W2 is? I didnt know it was out there to see.

Also, you want to bet everything you can sell against me? Based on what?

Do you want to set up a Sell-off? Maybe a little Selling Olympics.

Already I am at a HUGE disadvantage……………………….you own one of those Blackberrys!!!!!!

  21. Ex Monster rep Says:

I am at my office until 3 today, then traveling to Clevekand, so no Blackberry needed. I know how much you make because YOU felt like your balls would seem bigger to tell me “.very happy making well over 100k per year” You are so insignificant it is hilarious. Ask talented reps that are still there which really good reps left on their own in the past 6 months, you can figure out who I am. Any rep left that knew me can back up what I am saying and how successful I was at Monster. You are at a huge disadvantage , not b/c I have a blackbery, but because I can sell and you can’t. Tell me tough guy, do you work in Maynard, Tempe or Indy? How long have you been with Monster? If you work in Maynard I would ove to buy you a beer…….what do you say?

  22. Steve P Says:

Hey guys, flash report is due today. Don’t forget to discrepency all those ecomm transactions you had nothing to do with.

Does everyone still create dupe accounts and steal deals from each other reps/verticals?

  23. Flash Report Guy Says:

Too funny.Isn’t that why 2 managers got walked out in Maynard? Has anyone with any industry experience been reading the rants of “Current Rep “? Who is this clown? If this is the typical “sales talent” left at Monster, it’s no wonder they have fallen from grace so quickly. You don’t have to like the tone of the “ex rep” , but they are on target with what they say. Monster was a great company, can they return to those days? It isn’t looking good, certainly not with people like “current rep” on the phones. Anyway no malice here just a comment. Please don’t come after me “current rep”…..

  24. Current Rep Says:

Sorry, but you are misinformed Ex. I never told you I made over 100k.

My 1st post was at April 15th, 2008 at 10:18 am.

The previous posts were by another “Current Rep”. I am not 26 years old either.

The other posted was current monster rep, which is in lower case.

I am not silly enough to post what I made on a message board, or how great my sales skills are.

Or that I own a Blackberry. I dont see the point. It is right up there with posting about a former company I worked at.

  25. Discrepency Rep Says:

They are cracking down on discrepencies/taking deals? But inbound transferred it to me! I swear I had no idea they were a $10,000 renewal!

  26. POGO Says:

Hey Current Phone Donkey’s…Who was your favorite Leader Sue “back stabbing” Hayden , The Flying Hagopian or Phil Kuehne? You would of loved to have worked for Momma

  27. OMG Says:

Oh mannnnn, I wish I could Digg these comments.

  28. Dnique Says:

Wow Monster sounds like an awesome company to work for. It seems if you sell $1,000 a month by dropping your pants consistently in price you make $100K? Sign me up!!

  29. recruiter 324 Says:

Keep in mind, Dnique, that Monster seems to have made a habit of misrepresenting their numbers to their shareholders and the SEC; so I am sure that $100k is grossly exaggerated

  30. Maynard House of Pizza Says:

    Hey Sal,
You keep buying your talent market lunch, you find your self swiming with the fish’s at the bottom of the pond that sits outside your office…Darko, thanks for the tip…

  31. Corporate Chefs Says:

Hey guys, do not worry about the stock price or the diminishing market share and have another delicious free cookie! Everything will be just fine.

  32. PP "the truth" Says:

    I feel a rap coming! boooommmm !

  33. Swat Team Says:

So Sal made a few ducket’s last year….Monster CEO Iannuzzi received 2007 compensation of $12.9M, yet he is shaking us down for $395 Ecomm postings…I’ve got to eat to Sal.

Phil “pro-active” Kuehne nice job promoting J.Wis and C.Moh…Great reps with translate to solid managers…You have a loyal lieutenant in David “The Ax Man” Phillips getting ride of the two bandito’s, be careful working the floor you might get your milk money stole or stuffed in a locker!!!

PS…Sally, I don’t care how many field sales people you bring on in the next 30 days, Your staff is suffering worse then a bad case of Darko food poisoning…

  34. swat team joke Says:

wow i love how you choose one point of the article on cnnmoney.com talking about the CEOs payout. i think it is true that every ceo acroos the country, working for a public traded company. is probably grossly overly paid. but monster is still a billion dollar company so Sal’s payout i imagine is probably not out of the norm.

“Monster’s profit almost quadrupled to $146.4 million in 2007. Sales rose almost 21 percent to $1.35 billion”

just a little quote from the same article

i guess with all the turnover, problems with market share in the US, this new sales force with no talent still grew there year over year sales by 21%

listen the company ran into major problems in the US but you all still think that the US is where these sites will succeed? this is a gloabl economy. sorry but if i were running a recruitment site i would not be bankng on my cashflow coming from a economy that is worried about a possible recession. i would rather be targeting markets that are growing worldwide.

monster does need to step up and be innovative though. linkedin and sites like this are going to become an issue and if monster wants to stay number one WORLDWIDE then then they must take some of these innovative ideas and run with them. maybe even partner up with a linkedin

  35. Swat Team Ain't No Joke Says:

Are you familiar with the “Swat Team” that I introduced? It will penetrate wide and deep, it will dominate, it will steal market share…Monster is #1? Sounds like you’re the joke and on Auditor’s pay roll!!!
    http://corporaterecruitingblog.com/

Global? Are you familiar with the mess we have gotten our self into with ChinaHR? Are you familiar with the fear of God that Sal and Yates has put into the Executive Team…One man is sinking this great ship, One man is crumbling the foundation we built and I don’t care how many hot dogs and stale burgers he buys us, it ain’t going to change the fact that MNST has lost their MoJo and is falling flat on Trumps face!!!

The former Founder and Chairman had a chance to buy LinkedIn for cheap money but choose to buy Tickle instead…You are so clueless and need to lay off the grape as it’s going to kill your liver…

INDEED! MNST only hope is to be acquired before Sal causes any more damage…

    Yes, profits are up because:
    * Sal stopped paying my reps for $400 Ecom JP
    * Sal took away the white out, liquid paper, glue stic, tape and scissors from our desks
    * Sal no longer pays four of us for teaming on a deal
    * Sal ran out Monsta top sales rep Lieberman, b/c she was stealing all the salt and pepper shakers
    * Sal will hires 400 field sale AE from Symbol in the next 40 days…Out source low send accounts to India

BTW, $12-$13 Million for six months on the job is fair compensation for a CPA? I want some of what your smoking!!!

  36. Smoking the rock Says:

So you Mr or Ms. telesales rep…you are now working on giant global deals? Nicely done! When did you stop selling buy 1 get 1 free postings and start putting together global deals? Wow, way to think outside the box..this new sales force is kicking butt GLOBALLY…….who knew?

  37. omg Says:

Did monster pay ‘Current Rep’ for the 2 hours he spent castigating people on this board?

  38. Monster Ex Says:

Where are all the pro -Monster folks? Where is current ( rock star, I make 100K rep) The stock is at a 52 week low, the floor is at 42% attainment on the 23rd of June & NOBODY in sales is making any money….yeah, I gues I should have stayed!!!

  39. Alex Says:

Can someone tell me which company’s employees are not supposed to move after 8 or 10 years in an organization? Do we expect people to work for companies till you are on your deathbed and can no longer work? Grow up guys, people get better opportunities, they move on , people find Monster a good place to work, they will come in, no company expects its employees to stay with them for the entire life….. People go, people come, companies stay and grow!! Did Bonnie give you the reason she quit or are you taking every goddamn chance you get to take a shot at MONSTER! Some kind of personal vengeance being taken care of, huh!
